GREY SEALS OF THE LLYN PENINSULA

The two major Grey Seal colonies of the Llyn Peninsula are located in the St. Tudwals' archipelago and along the shores of Bardsey Island. A small group is also established in the Nefyn/Porth Dinllaen area and individuals can be seen in other remote rocky areas along the Llyn coastline.

On our "Shearwater" Coastal Cruises, we visit the seals of theSt. Tudwals' Islands on all our trips and include the Bardsey Island colony on our longer, afternoon cruise. During the time we have conducted our cruises, (since 2002), we have taken great care to minimise disturbance of these animals. Visiting the seals daily, it is obvious that they now readily recognise "Shearwater" and providing we remain patient and mindful of their desire to remain undisturbed, they provide us with excellent "photo-opportunities". We have included on this page examples of some of the 'seal-moments' we have recently enjoyed.

Their reproduction without our express permission is not permitted.

Seals underwater

Incredible agility and sleekness underwater contrasts completely with their clumsy lumbering and shuffling around on land.

Seals used to us

After 6 years careful nurturing, the seals readily recognise “Shearwater” and remain quite undisturbed by our presence.
